The Farmers Ball & Farming Awards 2018

at The High Rocks, Tunbridge Wells £40 +VAT (£48) per ticket. Price includes 4 course Christmas Dinner. Information on the annual social event for the farming and rural community is now available here on our website or by emailing lynsey@ramsak.co.uk. With the RAMSAK Group’s underlying aim to support farmers and bring the industry together, there is great excitement surrounding the third annual Farmers’ Ball and Farming Awards, which is to be held in December for the first time. Organised by the Pitchfork Events branch of the group, the event has been growing in popularity and, as well as celebrating the best farmers in the region through the awards, this year’s Farmers’ Ball is also set to provide a great opportunity for farms and rural businesses to celebrate the festive season. The awards, which are now open for nominations, will include as many farmers as possible, with categories covering arable, beef, sheep, dairy, fruit, family farming business and agricultural student of the year. Judges are looking for farmers who are passionate, dedicated and hard-working, willing to share best practices with others, with ideas for the future. They will be a source of inspiration and innovation and keen to trial unique practices. Nomination entries close on 1 October, with winners announced on Saturday 1 December 2018 at the High Rocks, Tunbridge Wells. As well as recognising the best farmers in the business, the Farmers’ Ball was also set up to raise money for the RAMSAK Group’s charity of the year, which is currently the Kent and Sussex Air Ambulance. On the evening welcome drinks will be followed by a four course Christmas dinner, DJ and charity auction. “The ball is an opportunity for everyone to catch up, perhaps do some business and celebrate the winners of the Farming Awards,” said Karen Wheeler, the RAMSAK Group Manager. “The timing of this year’s event will give farms the chance to treat staff to a large Christmas party without the hassle of organising it themselves. As always, the dress code is still country attire. We don’t want farmers to feel like they need to come in full formal evening wear. We are hoping for plenty of dresses paired with wellies and full tweed again!”

AgriSouth is a one day, free to attend event. The inaugural 2019 event hosted by NIAB TAG will focus on research, technical development and innovation as well as supplies and services by showcasing the very latest machinery and equipment as well as the myriad of professional services and supplies available for ag’ businesses. NIAB TAG will be showcasing a range of field-based arable demonstrations and trials that enable visitors to interact with our leading industry experts, including variety demonstration trials in winter wheat and winter oilseed rape. Additional agronomy and soil management demonstrations will be confirmed in early 2019. “If you haven’t attended a NIAB TAG demonstration event in the past, or it has just been a while, this year’s AgriSouth is an ideal opportunity to come along and take a look at the wide range of arable advice and research they provide and to meet our experts and local staff. And we’re delighted that AgriSouth is being held on the East Malling Estate, home to our sister horticultural research division NIAB EMR. NIAB TAG champions the role of independent crop research, with the UK’s largest farmer and industry membership base providing impartial information and on-farm advice. Our unique regional farmer technical committees drive many the areas which we trial. Some of the work undertaken at the trials centre in Kent is as a result of this, including NIAB TAG’s farming system trials looking at life without glyphosate, the contribution of soil conditioning materials, the use of biostimulants and the control of herbicide resistant ryegrass. “ NIAB TAG AgriSouth is jointly organised by NIAB TAG and Pitchfork Events Ltd and supported by our Media Partner, South East Farmer Magazine. With the ever increasing interest in UK wine and the many growers planting vines, a new event for UK viticulture will be launched in July 2019. The inaugural 2019 event will focus on supplies and services available to growers operating in the wine sector by showcasing the very latest machinery and equipment, as well as the myriad of professional services and supplies needed in the vineyard, from grape to bottle. Along with seminars on the day that will include well known and knowledgeable speakers, Vineyard Magazine will be hosting a wine tasting of the ‘Top 50 most influential UK Wines’ giving growers, wineries and interested parties the chance to try some of the very best that the UK has to offer. If you are passionate about the wine industry, then it will certainly be worthwhile attending our new event in July next year. For some time now investment in UK vines has been on the rise and although the industry has some way to go, the awards and accolades that our UK wines are receiving shows not just how much enthusiasm there is in this country to produce quality wine, but also that the rest of the world is now starting to take notice. We are very excited about this new event that will showcase the industry and bring everyone together. It just makes sense to hold this new event at a place that is considered to be the heart of viticulture in the UK. It will be like going home for many growers, as so many of them have attended Plumpton at some point, whether it was to learn the fundamentals of grape growing or to become a master of wine. Vine-Expo is managed by Pitchfork Events Ltd and supported by our Media Partner, Vineyard Magazine.
